The Shuttleworth foundation is based in South Africa and provides funding for dynamic leaders who are at the forefront of social change everywhere in the world. They identify amazing people, give them a fellowship grant, and multiply the money they put into their projects by a factor of ten or more. The supported social innovators help to change the world for the better.
We hope that our application at Shuttleworth will yield us a year’s salary, so that Inemarie can pull Rural Web for a full year, working on it fulltime. In addition, we hope to get some available funds ten-folded so that we can also hire a few people from developing countries, especially to do the ICT-work and thus truly give Rural Web the kick-start it needs.
As we explained to Shuttleworth, two years with volunteers only is simply not moving things forward fast enough. We really need somebody to pull this project.
Together with Inemarie (Svikaworks), we made a project proposal for the following year. Susannah Burnette of wiserfilm and Isaac Waithaca of Kencare Initiative and Masterpeace Kenya helped us to make the movie.
